WHAT IS AN ABUNDANCE MINDSET?

Discover how to live in a state of gratitude and abundance today.

Ever been to a fancy restaurant, had a delicious dinner, and everything about the evening was perfect—until you saw the bill? Suddenly, it’s like the joy of the entire experience disappears. You forget about the amazing food, the incredible ambiance, the service, and all you can think about is how much you just spent.

Why does this happen? Why do we always seem to focus on the negative side of things? It’s because our brain is wired for survival. It’s not built to make you happy; it’s built to keep you alive. Your mind automatically zooms in on what could be a threat. In this case, it’s the hit to your wallet.

But here’s the kicker—you get to choose what you focus on. You can either fixate on what’s wrong, or you can train yourself to focus on what’s right. And that’s where an abundance mindset comes in.

An abundance mindset is all about believing that there’s enough in the world for everyone. It’s about being grateful for what you have and trusting that the universe will provide for you. On the flip side, a scarcity mindset is rooted in fear. It’s the belief that there’s never enough—whether it’s money, time, success, or love.

The difference between these two mindsets can completely change how you see the world. If you have a scarcity mindset, you’re always focused on what you don’t have. You’re constantly comparing yourself to others and worrying that their success means there’s less left for you. But if you have an abundance mindset, you’re focused on what you do have. You’re grateful for the present moment, which means you’re more relaxed, make better decisions, and are more open to future possibilities.

As Tony Robbins says, “When you are grateful, fear disappears, and abundance appears.”

Think you might already be on your way to developing an abundance mindset? Check out these signs:

-        You celebrate others’ success. If someone else wins, it doesn’t take away from your potential. People with an abundance mindset genuinely celebrate others’ achievements because they know their own success is coming too.

-        You give back. When you live in abundance, you’re not afraid to give. Whether you’re volunteering your time, offering your skills, or simply taking care of loved ones, you know there’s always enough to go around.

-        You live in the present. Instead of being stuck in the past or worrying about the future, you’re focused on now. You appreciate the moment, knowing that the present is the only thing that’s guaranteed.

You might be thinking, "Okay, Sjoerd, this sounds great, but how do I actually make the shift from scarcity to abundance?" Let’s break it down.

Start by examining your limiting beliefs. We all have those little voices in our heads that say, “You don’t deserve this,” or “You’re not good enough.” These beliefs hold us back from embracing gratitude and abundance. Start paying attention to those negative thoughts and ask yourself: Are they really true? Challenge them and replace them with beliefs that empower you.

Once you’ve identified your limiting beliefs, flip them. If you’re thinking, “I never have enough time,” try shifting that to, “I make time for what’s important.” Practice gratitude by making a list of things you’re thankful for. The more you focus on the positive, the more natural it becomes to live in abundance.

Embrace change. Change is inevitable, and instead of resisting it, lean into it. When life throws you a curveball, don’t default to thoughts of loss or scarcity. Ask yourself: What can I learn from this? How can I grow? By embracing change with an open mind, you’ll find that it becomes a pathway to abundance.

An abundance mindset doesn’t mean ignoring your emotions or pretending everything is perfect. It means choosing to focus on the good, even when things don’t go your way. Life is full of ups and downs, but if you can find something to be grateful for every day, you’ll create a life filled with joy and fulfillment.

So, what is an abundance mindset, really? It’s making the conscious choice to live in a state of gratitude no matter what’s happening around you. Because if you’re only happy when life is going perfectly, then you won’t be happy very often. But when you start making those small shifts—choosing to focus on the good—you begin to experience joy more frequently. And eventually, you create a whole new emotional home for yourself.

Go Get It!

That’s it. Start small. Start with gratitude, and watch how your mindset shifts toward abundance. It’s not magic—it’s a choice. And that choice is yours to make every single day.
